Description:
The WordPress Content and Accessibility Specialist will oversee design and direction elements for the APH Web site (www.aph.org) and other APH sites. This person works with APH staff to gather and edit information for updating new and existing web pages. This position requires in-depth technical skills, as well as the ability to identify situations that may impact shopping experience, the ability to update copy when errors are identified, possess graphic design skills to create web pages for resizing images when needed, strong organizational skills, and good human-relations skills. A strong understanding of WCAG Standards and Guidelines is also required. This position reports to the Director of the Creative Services in the Dot6, APH’s internal agency.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Web Design: As a part of APH's web team, this position takes on many tasks related to website development, management, and maintenance. The WordPress Content and Accessibility Specialist’s daily duties include:
- Designs, builds, and maintains the front end of WordPress websites.
- Uses and evaluates submitted content to create new pages that conform to requirements, style guidelines, SEO, and accessibility best practices. Maintain/update existing pages.
- Ensures that the content of all web pages follow WGAC 2.1 standards and is fully accessible to all website users.
- Ensures accessibility of downloadable content before posting and remediate as necessary.
- Designs new sections of the APH website as needed.
- Reviews website on an ongoing basis for updates, out-of-date content, updated plug-ins, etc.
- Reviews website for functionality and recommends corrections/improvements.
- Continually refines website design based on staff and customer feedback.
- Stays current on new software and techniques in the rapidly changing environment of the web.
- Completes the testing of websites for accessibility on an ongoing basis.
- Website Development and Accessibility: The WordPress Content and Accessibility Specialist continually researches and implements new functions for the APH website. Strong knowledge of accessibility is required, as is staying abreast of new processes and technology as it evolves. IAAP WAS or ADS certification is preferred. IAAP CPACC accepted.
- Google Analytics: Must possess strong skillset for website tracking statistics and trends using tools such as GA4. Understands and manipulates data about our website that can be used to enhance our marketing and business development strategises.
- Administrative Duties:
- Meets with directors and staff of APH’s Strategy and Innovations Division to facilitate the creation of website content by learning their objectives and guiding them towards possible solutions.
- Schedules and plans complex web projects and coordinates timeline/campaign for social media posts.
- Responds to user questions and comments about the website.
- Attends SCRUM meetings with IT team and external vendors to discuss updates, web changes, and improvements that pertain to all APH websites.
