Description:

Design Leadership:

  • Build strategy and plan execution for website and digital communication for new HFS website and updated platforms for digital communications.
  • Provide strategy, expertise, and guidance for design, illustration, and visual communications.
  • Design, develop and maintain website and marketing/communications assets.
  • Establish marketing content standards for website and train content editors on those standards.
  • Oversee optimization of website; use website analytics to make data-driven design decisions.
  • Understand and educate senior leadership on design trends and technologies and implement them as appropriate.

    Design Execution:
  • Serve as the primary designer of the public web site, intranet, program websites, and email communications.
  • Ensure that all designs follow UW and HFS brand and editorial style guidelines.
  • Work independently and in collaboration with unit/department/UW partners and stakeholders.
  • Achieve user-centered design through planning and conducting user research, testing, prototyping, analysis and usability.
  • Develop sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups and prototypes.
  • Ensure that all designs are accessible and compatible with central University systems and platforms.
  • Apply a lens of equity and inclusion to all designs.

    Project and Relationship Management:
  • Lead project team meetings, and processes on graphic design, and visual communications matters.
  • Lead the delivery of consistent designs to a variety of audiences with HFS and UW partners.
  • Provide guidance to peers within the Department for developing and executing effective designs that tell the story of HFS and promote its programs and services.
  • Manage multiple projects at any given time and ensure that deliverables are completed on time and within budget. Provide timely and ongoing communication related to the status of projects and plans.
  • Utilize negotiation and relationship-building skills to create buy-in from partners and manage changing priorities and project timelines.
  • Procure and manage technical contractors and software/platform vendors as needed.
  • Collaborate with University partners, including participation in communities of practice groups.
  • Collaborate with ComMar colleagues to support continual learning and process improvement.
  • Identify potential solutions to complex problems and unique issues as they arise.
  • Provide training to staff on using templates, creating web site, and email content, with care for non-technical users.

    Supervision:
  • Lead internal design meetings and provide mentoring to existing staff designers and student employees.
  • Oversee the work completed by direct reports, ensuring appropriate productivity and quality.
  • Evaluate the work completed by direct reports and provide coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Provide guidance to direct reports on requirements and opportunities for learning and professional development.

    Miscellaneous:
  • Lead and/or participate in project- and cross-functional teams.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission and strategic initiatives of HFS.
