Duties

This position serves as a Waterfront Technical Authority Engineer overseeing technical aspects of ship acquisition contracts representing the Ship Design Manager (SDM) and other USCG Engineering Technical Authorities at the ship construction site. The Waterfront Engineer makes technical decisions for the Coast Guard and performs engineering control over the contractors through surveillance of the design development and production engineering efforts.

An appointment to this position requires future mobility related to assignment at a Program Resident Office (PRO) and/or Resident Inspection Office (RIO) for a major surface acquisition. As such, a future employee may be required to relocated to perform the duties at a different location to support future requirements.

A Mobility agreement must be signed upon acceptance of the position.

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Managing resolution of technical issues as a technical warrant holder; providing technical insight; coordinating programmatic authority issues with the local Coast Guard acquisition authority as defined in the Engineering Management Plan (EMP); and ensuring the appropriate Technical Authority/Tech Warrant Holders (TWH) and engineering leaders within the CG technical community are engaged.
  • Providing oversight of contractor developed design calculations, work procedures, production drawings, shipyard’s internal processes, technical documentations and contractor deliverables.
  • Coordinating the review of Shipbuilder production design to ensure conformance to specifications, or where specification does not exist, uses good engineering practices, theory, principles, and concepts.
  • Coordinating CG technical community engagement for tests and trials.
  • Providing engineering consultative services to the Program Manager’s representative, review and approve production engineering studies, drawings, test procedures, technical manuals, other technical documentation, and engineering change proposals.
