Position Overview
The Warehouse Apprentice is an hourly warehouse position within the Supply Chain Distribution Center network that leads to certification as a Power Industrial Truck Operator. Over the course of the apprenticeship, apprentices will learn a variety of tasks as it relates to operating powered industrial trucks. This apprenticeship will be based competency-based learning model. Our distribution centers are a team environment where Team Members will be crossed trained on a variety of tasks within the distribution center. Apprentices will gain valuable experience over to meet established performance standards while developing a high regard for safety, quality, productivity and cost. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, apprentices will receive Department of Labor Certification as a Powered Industrial Truck Operator and will be promoted to the Warehouse Team Member role.
Key Outputs / Deliverables
- Follow the apprenticeship training program and direction of trainer/mentor
- Learn to operate powered industrial trucks load trucks, unload trucks, stage product, store and retrieve product from warehouse racking and staging areas.
- Build individual performance capability through on the job training and practice to meet company productivity standards and measures
- Learn to Pick product in less than pallet load quantities and manually assemble mixed product pallets
- Stack/un-stack products as needed, lifting/carrying up to 35 lbs. on a frequent basis and up to 65 lbs. on an occasional basis
- Follow written work instructions to pick appropriate product for assigned orders
- Learn how to Prepare and complete all customer orders including related documentation
- Learn how to Operate various computer terminals and bar code scanner to assist with execution of job duties
- Learn how to Conduct work activities without adversely affecting the safety of yourself, co-workers, and others
- Learn how to Conduct inventory control activities included but not limited to cycle counts and physical verification of inventory status as assigned
- Keep work area clean and sanitary
- Use Company documents to conduct business as needed
- Learn how to Process damaged product and conduct recoup sorting as assigned
- General housekeeping and operator maintenance duties as assigned
- Regular and on time attendance and ability to work overtime (both voluntary and mandatory) required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications / Certifications
- No previous warehouse experience necessary
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or equivalent degree is preferred
- Experience operating a car, powered forklift, or other motorized equipment is helpful
- Basic command of the English language (reading, writing, and speaking)
- Basic Math including counting, addition, subtraction, and multiplication
- Basic computer knowledge and use
- Ability to communicate and function in a team environment
- Ability to troubleshoot basic problems and take appropriate corrective action
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to work overtime as needed
