Responsibilities

  • Provide a broad range of digital communications/graphic services and interactive learning solutions. Meet regularly with staff and program leadership to discuss performance, propose, initiatives, and establish priorities.
  • Create graphic/visual communication materials based on pre-set standards and best practices for communications and adult learning. Includes create and optimize images and interactive multimedia solutions for the digital products using Adobe Creative Suite products (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Fireworks, Acrobat) and Articulate 360 as well as Power BI, learning management systems, etc.
  • Design promotional materials for display at conferences, trainings, etc.
  • Design and develop web user interface features and special-effects elements; enhancing the look and feel of the project’s online offerings.
  • Develop data visualizations of project metrics to effectively communicate program successes.
  • Work with members of the team to develop graphic designs, concepts, and interface designs for factsheets, posters, digital, interactive features, website and social media products.
  • Facilitate desktop layout, image manipulation, and some pre-press preparation of graphics for digital platforms, including web, multimedia, and video.
  • Design/develop communication materials for distribution via PDF, PPT, or other digital media formats.
  • Design and build graphics and/or web pages using a variety of graphics software applications, techniques, and tools to support the project’s strategies and goals relative to internal/external communications.
  • Assist with the development of strategic integrated visual products and service strategies.
  • Collect, analyze, and apply web and performance metrics to improve visual designs, product development, and digital implementation.
  • Provide recommendations on how to make websites and products align with digital first best practices and improve data display.
  • Follow Section 508 guidelines when preparing electronic documents that will be posted online or distributed via email. Use the public health Federal Government customer's checklists to help ensure compliance with the guidelines.
  • Work with a team of health communicators and web developers to develop digital content and images (e.g., social media and web content).
  • Proactively identify, research, and resolve problems or issues; participate in team strategy sessions to discuss solutions. Proactively recommend updated strategies to improve analysis tactics and outreach efforts.
  • Participate in meetings as a representative of the customer and provide meeting updates/summaries to relevant team members. This includes developing content and working with Creative Services.

Requirements:

Required Experience and Skills

  • Prior experience with visual arts methods, techniques, and materials to design and produce video and/or other electronic media productions required.
  • Prior experience working in a public health setting, preferably supporting a Federal Government agency, strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with public health Federal Government agency policies and procedures for materials designed for their website.
  • Demonstrated experience in multimedia, infographics and print production.
  • Ability to create pages that are visually appealing and legible.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work under strict deadlines and prioritize tasks.
  • Experience following Section 508 guidelines to ensure compliance when creating, editing and approving documents for the web.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Fireworks, and Acrobat).
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to obtain a government clearance.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, graphic communications, fine arts, industrial design, drafting, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position.
