KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Utility Building Services position performs the following essential duties. Other duties may be assigned as needs arise.
As assigned, performs duties requiring demonstrated skill to the standard set by the Museum:
- Performs all aspects of maintenance on hardwood, marble, terrazzo, tile, and cork floors, including buffing, polishing, stripping/refinishing as directed.
- Preps and paints walls, woodwork and ceilings in all non-gallery areas; paints exterior railings and other trim;
- Cleans rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture.
- Assembles/disassembles and reassembles furniture using basic hand tools.
- Using forklift, pallet jack, etc., assists with the delivery of bulk freight and/or other deliveries, moving materials among Museum buildings as necessary.
Performs all housekeeping duties, including but not limited to the following:
- Regular dusting, and cleaning, including windows, walls, ceilings, woodwork, restrooms, cases in galleries, etc.; polishes metalwork; wet and dry-mops floors; stocks supplies in restrooms and classrooms; keeps storerooms clean and orderly.
- Empties trash in all areas of Museum, transports trash and waste to disposal area; keeps disposal area free of litter.
- Physically assists with delivery of bulk freight and/or other deliveries.
- Transport small equipment and tools between Museum areas; moves office furniture and other furniture as requested.
- Provides emergency clean-up as needed
Sets up and tears down for special events, including but not limited to:
- Setting up tables, chairs, and other items as directed by supervisor and or work orders; making necessary adjustments as directed by Special Events Staff or activity coordinator.
- Removing equipment following special events and Museum activities; remove all trash and debris; return gallery and/or meeting areas to clean and orderly condition.
Assist with Grounds duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
- Snow and ice removal
- Removal of trash and other debris
- Lawn maintenance: edging, trimming and hand mowing, mulching, and weeding
Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports directly to the Director of Facilities. Facilities Supervisor may also assign tasks or provide direction to the Utilities team members.
- Works closely with Protective Services, Conservation, IT, and other members of the Facilities team to include the maintenance team and groundskeepers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must be able to obtain valid driver’s license; must be insurable through TMA insurance company.
- Minimum of two years' related experience in the past three years, cleaning in a large commercial or institutional environment, with working knowledge of all equipment and materials used in utility work, including floor cleaners and waxers/buffers; previous experience with genie and/or scissors lift and forklift required; some experience with hand mowers and snow blowers preferred.
