Description:
Specific duties include:
- Developing long-range transportation studies and reports, including elements related to bicycle, pedestrian, and micromobility device travel;
- Managing projects to improve infrastructure for active transportation modes, including CIP development for WalkArlington and BikeArlington capital projects;
- Supporting the Bicycle and Pedestrian advisory committees and attending meetings as needed;
- Reviewing plans for multimodal transportation infrastructure to ensure compliance with the County’s Master Transportation Plan;
- Serving as the TPCPM/DOT liaison on plans, programs, and studies led by County departments and external agencies (e.g., VDOT, Fairfax County, etc.);
- Facilitating meetings and work sessions to develop and communicate input from DOT;
- Supporting the County's Vision Zero Action Plan implementation and tracking, and other efforts to enhance safety for all modes of active transportation;
- Developing and presenting recommendations on current active transportation and planning issues to Senior Management, the County Manager, the County Board, the Transportation Commission and other organizations;
- Serving as a Countywide subject matter expert on the topics of active transportation, including bicycle and pedestrian and micromobility programs; and
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Ability to be a collaborative problem solver;
- Demonstrated understanding of the complexities and challenges of transportation planning in a municipal government;
- Project management skills necessary for leading and contributing to numerous initiatives concurrently;
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams; and
- Communication and presentation skills to interact with interagency staff, external agencies, and public stakeholders.
- Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning/Studies, Geography, Social or Environmental Sciences, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university;
- Significant and progressively responsible experience in transportation planning, active transportation programming, project management, or related program areas.
