Description:
Manage the repair and preventive maintenance program for all assigned fleet equipment which includes planning, organizing, and directing the program to support operational requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise the shop staff which includes recruitment, training, and evaluation of employees.
- Promote good morale and teamwork within the maintenance facility.
- Attend drivers meetings to receive feedback regarding shop operation.
- Schedule and prioritize vehicle repairs to meet the operational requirements.
- Assist with evaluating the overall maintenance costs associated all maintenance activities and make recommendations as required.
- Control costs by comparing current parts, supplies, and vendor costs with other potential vendors.
- Provide input to procedural and operational changes within fleet maintenance to reduce costs and/or improve labor productivity.
- Assist with the development of yearly budget targets for the maintenance facility.
- Respond to safety audits in a timely fashion.
- Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods.
- Ensure shop tools are in safe working order.
- Conduct monthly shop and safety meetings with mechanics.
- Review repair orders within the TMT system to monitor the accuracy of preventive and repair requests performed by shop mechanics.
- Perform regular and thorough audits of work completed by mechanics.
- Evaluate vehicle repairs to determine if work should be done in-house or handled by an outside vendor.
- Ensure that all parts are inventoried on a monthly basis to ensure appropriate stock is on hand to meet operational needs.
- Work with mechanics to analyze problems and schedule correction.
- Ensure that tractors and trailers are properly cleaned to promote a positive corporate fleet image.
- DC-1 Specific: Inspect newly purchased equipment to ensure conformance to specifications.
- DC-1 Specific: Perform in-service inspections and required modifications for the fleet of cars (770) and service trucks (180).
- Aggressively pursue waste and inefficiencies in their operation.
- Target potential improvements and work with teams to improve working environment and product throughput.
- Act as "change agent" to drive "lean" education and utilization.
- Play a key role in the development of a Continuous Improvement mindset in our operations in order to better service our costumer and provide and support training for associates to support continuous improvement ideas.
- Accountable for "lean" process sustainability within assigned operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma
- Understanding of parts, supplies, and tools required to support shop operations and goals.
- Ability to direct subordinates in approved maintenance techniques.
- Ability to perform road tests and similar checks to review the effectiveness of repair and maintenance work performed by mechanics.
- Ability to advise and provide interpretation to subordinates regarding the application of corporate policies, procedures, and standards.
- Valid driver license/CDL preferred.
- 5+ years relevant experience
