Transporation Safety Supervisor

Job Summary Provides overall strategic direction and leadership in establishing a safety culture for the operational team of assigned customer(s). Manage corporate safety processes and procedures for rail-crew transportation operations which will reduce accidents and injuries. Deliver established driver safety training and provides strategic support to Operations Sr. Managers/Directors. Evaluates existing safety programs and consults with organizational leaders to continuously improve training techniques and processes. Oversees the execution of the operational handling of state and client-specific driver and vehicle compliance tasks.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Works with Operational leaders to ensure compliance with company policies, Federal and State Laws regarding driver selection and safety.

2. Supports and advises Human Resources on driver issues.

3. Oversees and monitors quality of training for railroad crew transportation operations.

4. Development, implementation and monitoring of policies and procedural guidelines to reduce liability exposure from employee injuries, vehicle accidents and public safety issues.

5. Act as a primary liaison to the assigned client for day-to-day client-specific safety issues.

6. Investigate post-incident root cause, determine preventability, initiate discipline(if required), provide appropriate post-event training/coaching, document investigation findings with corrective action and provide documentation to human resources for the driver file.

7. Investigate Safety Hotline complaints and take appropriate action based on investigation.

8. Track operational driver and vehicle compliance tasks for an assigned region/client.

9. Hold ongoing safety meetings with operational leadership to discuss incident trends. Collaborate with the operational leadership to create corrective action for continuous improvement. Implement corrective action, document corrective action effectiveness and report overall progress/outcomes to senior safety leadership.

10. Manages content and productivity of safety ambassadors within the assigned region/client.

11. Travels to assigned areas to provide onsite driver training as needed.

12. Tracks and manage driver compliance for ongoing, quarterly, safety training.

13. Implements and manages programs to positively impact outcomes of workers’ compensation and auto liability claims.

 

Qualifications, Experience

• 3 - 5 years prior safety transportation experience. Familiarity with rail experience preferred.

• Knowledge in operations, safety, recruiting, finance and maintenance.

• Familiarity with state and federal labor, DOT, OSHA, EEOC and substance abuse legislation.

• Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively motivate employees, communicate objectives and action plans, and establish positive relationships with stakeholders.

• Proven strategic planning and leadership expertise to manage the development of organization-wide strategies that reduce/eliminate vehicle accidents and worker injuries and ensure our drivers are the best trained and qualified for the job.

• Prior industry training

• Knowledge of transportation security methodologies.

• Industrial relations management experience preferred.

• Managerial skills necessary to effectively run the department and motivate employees.

• Knowledge of legal theories relating to tort, insurance, environmental and safety law.
