Description:
We seek creative, passionate, open-minded instructors who are knowledgeable in multiple disciplines and engaged with the world around them. Instructors are responsible for a group of 10-20 students.
The Teen Art Collaborative runs on Fridays starting on January 26th to April 19th, 2024, from 6-8PM. Additional time is required for set up, clean up, and organizational time during the beginning and end of the day.
After a required staff planning/training day, instructors are responsible for working both individually and in collaboration with each other to develop curriculum. This includes artist, exhibition, theme, and material research; lesson and project planning; remote and/or in-person team meetings; and studio setup. Compensation covers time spent during training, meetings, preparation, instruction, set up, and clean up.
Essential Functions:
¦ Directly supervise and manage the safety and well-being of students.
¦ Demonstrate comfort and ability to work with traditional and unconventional art-making materials.
¦ Research and develop curriculum in connection with The Rockport Art Association and Museum exhibitions and while preparing for the possibility of emergent curriculum shifts as student interests become evident.
¦ Utilize studio space for provocations; having respect for materials, maintaining accessible, inclusive, and approachable demeanor to stimulate ideas, initiative, and imagination.
¦ Execute singular lessons and/or extended projects designed encouraging campers to investigate, discover, express themselves, and work together while immersed in art and nature to generate nature journals and nature-based art.
¦ Directly supervise and mentor the Teen Helper assigned ( when applicable) to manage acute needs of students in sessions.
¦ Communicate on-site with parents around student safety, discipline, and productivity.
¦ Collaborate with RAA&M Museum Education Coordinator and Director to identify and resolve behavior concerns
Qualifications:
¦ A Bachelor’s degree (or currently enrolled in a program) in education, art, the sciences, the humanities, or other relevant course of study
¦ Experience working as an art educator, classroom teacher, or informal educator
¦ A special interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and place-based education
¦ The physical and mental wherewithal to teach indoors, outdoors, and in a museum setting
¦ Must have or be willing to obtain (training is available) Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification
¦ A familiarity with RAA&M’s educational philosophy
Other Requirements:
¦ A satisfactory criminal background check (CORI and SORI)
¦ Able and willing to work across a busy site both indoors and outside, in all types of weather
¦ Must be able to lift up to 50 pound
