Description:
Working with their supervisors in the Education Department, the Teen Programs intern will further develop their skills in the planning, coordination, communication, and evaluation of a museum program. In addition, they will learn to create learning objectives for program participants, develop a communications and outreach plan for career development offerings, and design an evaluative instrument to collect feedback and identify opportunities for program improvement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Attend and support weekly TAG meetings (Thursday evenings Oct 2023-May 2024). Communicate with supervisor if conflict comes up.
- Work with supervisor to plan weekly agendas and prepare any necessary documents, supplies, artist contacts, field trip logistics, Zoom meetings, etc. in advance of meetings.
- Track TAG member attendance.
- Support teen, parent, partner, and staff communications.
- Support TAG efforts (ex. Teen Night Out, final project, etc.) by offering conceptual, planning, and logistical insight, including:
- Development of learning objectives for TAG participants
- Creation of an evaluation plan and participant survey
- Assist with general activities such as cleaning individual work area and shared work areas after use. Identify necessary supplies and work with supervisor to procure them.
- Support efforts furthering teens’ exposure to education or career pathways beyond high school.
- Assist in TAG interviews and advise on applicants, if applicable.
- Assist supervisor on other teen related programming as needed.
- Connect with other departments at SAM. This may include informational interviews, participating in department meetings, or attending museum events.
- Complete a 2 hour job shadow with frontline volunteers during open hours.
- Complete a one-page reflection, blog post, or interview about your internship experience.
- Attend enrichment sessions, informational interviews, and check-ins as available.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Demonstrated interest in education, art, community programs, and/or museums.
- Demonstrated interest in working with youth audiences, especially teens.
- Ability to work efficiently and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work both independently on projects and as a team member for department priority tasks and group projects.
- Ability to ask for help and accept supervision and evaluation of your work.
- Ability to work with others professionally and tactfully, and to represent the Museum with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
- Adhere to Museum policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.
- Abide by the Standards for Museum Volunteers/Interns as outlined in the Volunteer/Intern Packet.
- Proficiency in general computer use.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
