Supervisory Police Officer

 

Description:

The Supervisory Police Officer is located in the Office of Protection Services for the Smithsonian Institution. This position provides supervision and manages the National Zoological Park (NZP) and the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) police and physical security programs.

In this position, you will:

  • Plan and assign work to staff based on priorities and schedules while adjusting duty assignments as necessary.
  • Coordinate various emergency response organizations during times of emergency.
  • Develop and implement complex plans for the safeguarding of dignitaries and other high-level officials.
  • Develop plans for the handling of special events and crowd control activities.

  • Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with Selective Service.
  • May be required to serve an 18-month probationary period for supervisors.
  • This is a drug testing position which requires random drug testing.
  • May need to successfully complete a Pre-employment Physical Examination.
