Duties
The Supervisory Museum Specialist is responsible for protecting, restoration and preservation of collections, as well as personnel management of the units museum. The incumbent will supervise a team of museum technicians/specialists in handing, maintenance, preserving, and restoring artifacts from the National Collections.
In this position, you will:
- Be responsible for restoration and preservation planning after seeking advice and working closely with the technical experts of the PRU staff, the curators, and the Conservation Unit.
- Train subordinates in all areas of preservation and restoration and is expected to accomplish this training and tasking independently.
- Develop work schedules and assigns tasks based on an approved project schedule, taking into account the individual and team skills of the staff.
- Initiate, review, and approve personnel actions to include: promotions, reassignments, performance plans and appraisals, and disciplinary actions.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including administrative duties, such as creating budgets, resource requirements, project/task schedules, objectives/goals, staff/organizational planning, etc., in support of the unit. Also serves acts as a Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative as needed
- Keep the Chief, PRU and/or the Collections Dept. Chair informed of project status, independently resolving problems, and bringing unique issues to their attention.
