Student Services Specialist

 

Description:

Provide support to the student population through the transition into college in the areas of enrollment, financial aid, and student account processes. This support may be done in one-on-one and/or group settings.

 

Essential Functions

Process admissions and guide students through course registrations. Provide individualized information and support on entrance requirements for programs and courses and provide minor assistance or appropriate referrals for students in completing the necessary steps to be admitted and/or register for classes. Provide registration assistance for credit and non-credit classes. Collect necessary support documentation the student needs to provide and enter those documents in the College’s student records system. Guide students through application and orientation processes.


Provide financial aid information and services to students. Assist students in establishing payment plans, receive and process student tuition payments and miscellaneous fees, and reconcile daily receipts. Support the completion of financial assistance applications (FAFSA, scholarships, supplemental materials, etc.) and necessary supporting documents.


Provide support for the annual enrollment management strategies and plan, including visit days, family nights, campus tours, college fairs, and community outreach programming. Support student activities and events on campus. Update campus signage, flyers, newsletters, and other promotional and informational material.


Serve as first point of contact for campus visitors and answer inquiries from students, staff, and outside organizations regarding DMACC programs, classes, procedures, and/or other related areas. Greet guests/students when they arrive at the counter for any reason. Answer main phone line. Update voice mail for closures, hour changes, etc. Monitor campus email inbox. Respond and provide next steps for tour requests submitted on website.


Process paper forms, registration forms, and admissions paperwork such as transcript requests, name/address changes, requests to re-enroll in a class, enrollment verification, residency information, Release of Information (FERPA) change of program, start term, campus change.

 

Required Qualifications

Associates degree (high school diploma and two years of related experience may substitute for associate’s degree.)
One year of general office experience which includes computer experience and substantial public contact.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to plan, organize and manage time.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of current software applications.
