Duties and Responsibilities

    • This position is the Manager of Student Services and reports directly to CTAHR's Associate Dean for the Academic and Student Affairs Office (ASAO)
    • Responsible for high-level decision-making about CTAHR's student services under the direction of the Associate Dean for ASAO.
    • Communicates and supports the mission, vision, and goals of the CTAHR Office for Academic and Student Affairs
    • Oversees student advising unit, encompassing pre-admissions, admissions, registration, records, requirements, advising, counseling, academic actions, and graduation.
    • Oversees and directs student affairs activities such as, but not limited to, orientation, retention, advising, satisfaction strategies, assessment, student life, co-curricular involvement, appeals, grievances, and academic co-curricular support services.
    • Develop and coordinate ASAO events that are essential for improving CTAHR retention.
    • Makes recommendations on areas for improvement; and maintains current knowledge in student affairs.
    • Ensures campus compliance with all regulatory agencies, state and governing boards, and accrediting bodies, including but not limited to the Jeanne Cleary Act and Title IX.
    • Develop and implement an effective process for undergraduate student retention management by directly engaging CTAHR Department Chairs, Academic Program Coordinators, and other university stakeholders (i.e., Director of UHM Advising)
    • Design, implement, and evaluate a variety of initiatives to regularly monitor the academic progress of students to ensure their satisfactory academic progress
    • Represent the college on a variety of internal and external committees and task forces; advise the CTAHR Associate Dean for ASAO on student affairs, admissions, external funding, and academic matters (APC, CAA, articulation).
    • Serves on the UHM Council of Academic Advisors and UHM Academic Procedures Committee and proposes academic policies and practices to ensure effective and consistent student advising across college and Manoa.
    • Advise and/or counsel students regarding academics, career choice, and personal matters.
    • Develop a strong partnership with multidisciplinary teams in CTAHR and other UH colleges to direct the academic affairs of nine CTAHR undergraduate programs effectively.
    • Coordinates and serves as a resource to departmental advisors regarding implementing college procedures and regulations concerning undergraduate students.
    • Serve as liaison between departments and the University regarding policy and procedure updates, such as catalog updates, program sheets, 4-year plan updates, STAR, etc.
    • Evaluates academic progress and eligibility for graduation.
    • Develop and implement procedures for undergraduate programs for CTAHR, which align with the University's policies and procedures.
  • Participate in CTAHR recruitment efforts
  • Participate in various student activities coordinated by the Academic and Student Affairs Office.
  • Supervise APT positions within the Academic and Student Affairs Office.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in science, science education, educational counseling, social sciences, or related field and 5 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for working with high school, college-bound, or college students in academic advising, career advising, or related experience; or equivalent education/training or experience.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the student-support services as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles, and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with high school, college-bound, or college student-support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative, and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
