Description:
Under supervision, responsible for fulfilling the Museum Stores mission statement; in particular to educate and serve a varied audience and provide exceptional customer service, creating a positive experience for Museum visitors by keeping the stores stocked and maintained in a neat and orderly manner. Performs a variety of duties related to the receipt, storage, ticketing, and stocking of merchandise at the Museum Stores. Works on the sales floor as needed, rings up sales, and assists with merchandising, fulfillment of internal and external customer orders, and store set-ups. Nature of work requires considerable physical effort and heavy lifting.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receives and unloads deliveries of merchandise, materials, and supplies.
- Restocks the stores on a daily basis using sales reports and visual guidelines to ensure fixtures and store displays are full and all merchandise is available for sale.
- Tickets and prepares merchandise for the warehouse, stockroom, and sales floor.
- Transports and stores merchandise, materials, and supplies in proper areas, using hand or power equipment, to the warehouse, stockroom, or sales floor.
- Marks and transfers merchandise to or between store locations as needed and accurately processes transfers in the inventory system.
- Maintains order, organization, and cleanliness in all stock rooms and sales floor areas.
- Fulfills internal and external customer orders, and assists with packing and shipping of orders as required.
- Takes periodic inventories and assists in annual physical inventory preparation and execution. Updates inventory system as required.
- Works closely with sales/stock associates and assists Store Operations Managers, Buyers, Visual Merchandiser, and Retail & E-Commerce staff as required.
- Operates manual and automatic equipment such as dumbwaiters, dollies, hand trucks, and pallet jacks within Museum safety guidelines.
- Works the sales floor at the Main Stores or Special Stores as assigned in a friendly and positive manner. Assists customers and rings up sales with the POS system in an accurate manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: A high school degree is required for this position.
Work Experience: Minimum of two years experience in a retail environment; specialty or museum store experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Previous experience in inventory control procedures required along with excellent working knowledge of the methods and procedures commonly used in shipping, receiving, stocking, and related inventory record keeping.
- Ability to perform standard, retail business math.
- Familiarity with reading inventory and restocking reports.
- Initiative is required to pinpoint existing problems and solve them in a constructive manner.
- Must be a team player and be able to work quickly and courteously with customers, colleagues, and the general public.
- Ability to follow policies, procedures, and instructions in an efficient and cooperative manner.
- Capable of lifting and carrying up to 70 pounds; considerable physical effort may be required.
- Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and clean DMV record.
- Must be able to drive a truck between the warehouse and museum locations.
