Sport Psychologist

The Volunteer Sports Psychologist will play a vital role in providing mental health support and guidance to athletes within the Southern California region. This position offers an excellent opportunity for licensed sport psychologists to contribute their expertise to a meaningful cause and make a positive impact on athletes' well-being.

 

+ Essential Job Functions

 

  • Conduct individual clinical sessions with athletes to address mental health challenges and provide therapeutic interventions.
  • Collaborate with NAAMH's data retrieval team by contributing clinical insights and observations to enhance research efforts.
  • Facilitate workshops and group sessions for youth athletes and collegiate athletes, focusing on mental skills training, resilience building, and performance enhancement.
  • Lead seminars, podcasts, and educational forums on topics related to sports psychology, mental health, and athlete well-being.
  • Advocate for NAAMH's mission and initiatives within the sports community, promoting mental health awareness and destigmatization.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all interactions with athletes and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other members of the NAAMH team to develop and implement mental health programs and resources.
  • Dedicate 10-15 hours per week to NAAMH-related activities, including clinical sessions, workshops, and advocacy efforts.

 

+ Education and Experience

 

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or related field.
  • Licensed or certified as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
  • Experience working as a sport psychologist or mental performance coach, preferably with athletes at various levels of competition.
  • Strong clinical skills, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, with a focus on evidence-based practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with athletes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead workshops, seminars, and educational sessions effectively.
  • Passion for athlete well-being and mental health advocacy, with a commitment to promoting positive change within the sports community.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to accommodate athlete schedules and NAAMH events.
  • Must have liability insurance, if partaking in clinical sessions.
