Special Education Paraprofessional Floater

 

Description:

The Special Education Paraprofessional Floater assists instructional staff in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning learning environment for students. The role involves working with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning, assisting with behavioral strategies, helping students during mainstream classes, and providing support with daily living skills.


Responsibilities:

  • Reinforce learning of material or skills for students under staff guidance.

  • Assist in implementing behavioral strategies and support students in crisis.

  • Help students participate in specials or mainstream classes according to their Individualized Education Plans (IEP).

  • Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests.

  • Assist with equipment, technology, and communication devices.

  • Assist with instructional assignments, manage student attendance, and help with data collection.

  • Supervise students during various activities throughout the day.

  • Support students with daily living skills like dressing, toileting, and eating.

  • Alert staff to special student needs or information.

  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior.

  • Perform non-teaching duties and assist in academic programs under teacher supervision.


Required Qualifications:

  • Certification: Valid Illinois Professional Educator's, Paraprofessional, or Substitute License registered in Lake County.

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent and 60 college credit hours.

  • Experience: Preferred classroom experience; Spanish-speaking candidates are encouraged.

  • Competency in digital environments such as iPads, Chromebooks, and Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to develop positive relationships with students, staff, and the community.

  • Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Empathetic, open-minded, and strong team player.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.


Terms of Employment:

  • Work Week: Monday through Friday

  • Work Year: 176 days

  • Work Hours: 8:20 a.m. - 3:55 p.m.
