Job Duties

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is seeking a dedicated and civic-minded individual to join our team of sworn Peace Officers.

Are you excited about delivering the best Security experience to our guests? This position may be the perfect fit for you! Our Special Conservators of the Peace are responsible for assisting in the overall safety and security of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, employees, and its patrons while on duty. This is a crucial role to the Museum and requires following proper safety and security procedures. As our Security Operations are open 24/7, 365 days a year, we expect this role to be flexible in working mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Special Conservators of Peace (SCOP) may be required to work up to 6 months on an overnight rotation once training has been completed.

Special Conservators of the Peace (SCOP) ensure that the museum is a safe environment for a variety of art related events and exhibitions by patrolling the museum property and grounds, enforcing rules and regulations, assisting visitors and employees, reporting potential hazards and suspicious activities, and responding to emergency situations. Officers also assist with investigations, secure evidence, and complete logs and other records.

As a Special Conservator of the Peace, officers carry weapons and exercise general police powers as appropriate.
