Description:
This position reports serves on the Academic Administration and Operations Team within the
Office of the Provost. Web-related duties encompass 70% of the position and 30% of the
position is dedicated to developing high-level graphics, presentations and materials.
Duties:
- Manage web design and programming for all Office of the Provost websites.
- Manage the design, structure, creation and implementation of web-related initiatives.
- Create presentation and web materials (slides, infographics, messages, etc.) to support
Provost’s Office priorities.
- Support the dissemination of Provost’s Office messaging through blogs, broadcast
emails, etc.
- Ensure compliance with current and future web accessibility and design standards.
- Ensure that all websites remain accurate and up to date.
- Provide consultation and support to Office of the Provost web content managers.
- Maintain a web planning calendar.
- Create web campaigns that aid the long-term goals of the Office of the Provost.
- Stay up to date with trends in the web design and content landscape.
- Set, track and report on performance metrics/analytics for web content and SEO.
- Ensure brand consistency through tone, voice, terminology and imagery.
- Work with VCU Technology Services and Enterprise Marketing and Communications to
ensure best practices and compliance with VCU policies.
- Curate and create written and/or visual (photos/videos) web content.
- Collaborate with university-level technology services in optimizing use of CMS.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience plus two years professional experience -
or equivalent combination of education and related work experience
- Broad knowledge of web design, programming, web content development, digital
publishing, email and web-based communications best practices, technologies and tools;
knowledge of display and integration of multimedia content
- Experience designing web sites to meet institutional requirements and federal
accessibility standards and cross-browser compatibility
- Strong understanding of current trends and knowledge in the profession
- Experience working within content management systems such as T4
- Knowledge of graphic/web design, including an understanding of WCAG 2.0, AA and
being able to create compliant content
- Knowledge of modern web development languages
- Experience with cross-platform, cross-browser testing and troubleshooting
- Experience with collecting and analyzing online metrics via tracking systems such as
Google Analytics
- Experience creating, writing, and editing content for the web
- Experience creating assets and editing in Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Adobe
Acrobat, Photoshop and Illustrator) or other creative programs for print and digital
platforms
- Experience shooting and editing photos and videos
- Knowledge of best practices for the web and appropriate applications/tools to enhance
user experience.
- Experience with Google Suite, Smartsheet or similar collaboration products/tools
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student
environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Demonstrated strength in clear and concise written and verbal communications for a
variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated record of dependability and reliability
- High degree of creativity, strong verbal and written communication, and advanced
technical skills
