Description:
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Test Engineer with experience in testing to join our Fire Lab team. In this role, you will coordinate and execute fire testing activities for construction products, ensuring that projects meet client requirements, adhere to test standards, and are completed on time. This position involves a mix of office-based responsibilities and hands-on lab work, including oversight of test setup and teardown, as well as supporting lab staff throughout the testing process. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Lab Director to maintain laboratory accreditations and uphold our quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and conduct fire testing in accordance with ASTM, NFPA, UL and other standards for building materials.
- Construct and instrument test specimens, including walls, floors, and other assemblies, with data acquisition sensors.
- Maintain laboratory accreditations, quality standards, and procedural compliance, including participation in audits and adherence to ISO 17025, 17020 and 17065 requirements.
- Perform fire testing and interpret test data to develop detailed, standards-compliant technical reports.
- Operate, maintain, and arrange calibration for fire lab equipment, ensuring testing accuracy and safety.
- Assist in the development of testing protocols and procedures, expanding testing capabilities as necessary.
- Coordinate with lab technicians to provide training and guidance on testing procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory or testing environment.
- Strong understanding of building codes (I-codes) and ASTM standards.
- Ability to construct and prepare test specimens, as well as to instrument them with data acquisition sensors.
- Experience with ISO 17025, 17020 and 17065 quality management systems and lab accreditation processes.
- Proficiency with data acquisition software (Python, LabVIEW preferred).
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Hands-on construction experience a plus.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
