Senior Project Manager

Peer Consulting is hiring a Senior Project Manager for a 12-month hybrid contract role in Mechanicsville, VA, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in government projects.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving IT software projects from initiation to successful delivery, ensuring alignment with business objectives, maintaining clear communication, and managing risks, resources, and stakeholders effectively.

This role requires a PMP certification (mandatory) and proven experience with Waterfall, Agile, Jira, and COTS/SaaS projects.

Primary Responsibilities

✅ Clearly define project objectives, goals, scope, timeline, budget, resources, and milestones.
✅ Develop and manage comprehensive project plans and project portfolios.
✅ Conduct stakeholder analysis to ensure proper engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
✅ Align all project activities with strategic goals and maintain progress through effective coordination across teams.
✅ Document all tasks, processes, and decisions for accountability and tracking.
✅ Lead pre-project impact analysis and partner with IT teams to ensure technical feasibility and quality assurance.
✅ Identify risks early and develop effective mitigation strategies.
✅ Manage resource allocation based on evolving project needs.
✅ Track and resolve issues that may jeopardize project goals.
✅ Simultaneously manage multiple high-priority projects.
✅ Measure performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
✅ Mentor and motivate project teams, fostering a collaborative environment.
✅ Define roles and responsibilities to ensure clear accountability.
✅ Manage communication channels to keep all stakeholders (business, IT, vendors) informed and aligned.
✅ Conduct effective meetings, resolve conflicts, and provide valuable feedback.

Required Skills

✔️ Active PMP Certification (Mandatory)
✔️ 8+ years of IT software project management experience
✔️ Experience managing projects using Waterfall, Agile, and Hybrid methodologies – 10 years
✔️ Strong expertise in:

• Issue, risk, decision, and change control – 10 years
• Developing project monitoring & control processes – 10 years
• Conflict resolution and stakeholder management – 10 years
• Time management for project tracking and reporting – 10 years
• Tailoring project approaches to stakeholder needs – 10 years
• Managing scope, schedule, and budget – 10 years
  ✔️ Previous use of Jira – 4 years
  ✔️ Experience with both custom software development and COTS/SaaS implementation projects
