Senior Manager Automation

The Senior Manager Automation will lead the design, installation, optimization, and improvement of industrial automation systems including Robotics and AGV’s.

  • Lead control systems and equipment, supporting all PLC systems and automation controls, for multiple sites, focusing on maximized uptime and minimal interruptions.
  • Direct and lead capital control projects and any third-party controls contractors.
  • Improve reliability and performance of plant PLC and communications systems. Identify areas for improvement of controls and communications systems as well as power distribution systems, leading implementation of improvements.
  • Provide recommendations on electrical specifications to meet industry standards, as well as preview, approve, and release all detailed electrical drawings for production and installation.
  • Assign project work to internal and external engineers, programmers, and CAD designers, and direct their activities as needed.
  • Communicate project status, risks, countermeasures and opportunities through written reports, presentations, or conference calls. Manage project execution through regular status reviews and eliminate barriers to preventing progress.
  • Create written capital project requests with clear scope, schedule, resources, and justification. Track project costs against budget and keep both team and management updated.
  • Using a Lean / Continuous Improvement approach, identify and implement changes that improve control systems and communications within the plant, and lead to shortened cycle times, improved quality, etc.
  • Contribute to annual CAPEX planning discussion.
  • All other duties as assigned.
     

Required Skills And Education
 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering and Industrial Control Systems, including robot animation and AGV systems, with direct apps in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience leading a team of Electrical and Mechanical Controls Engineers, ideally at multiple sites, with a proven background in capital projects and continuous improvement.
  • Meaningful hands-on electrical engineering experience in areas of PLC controls, HMI development, plant level power distribution, process integration and optimization, Robot Automation and AGV’s.
  • Understanding of and ability to specify instrumentation requirements on capital projects.
  • Excellent project management skills including prioritization, organization, resource allocation and business analytics.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and Microsoft suite products needed.
  • Strong/Proven Leadership, Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communications, including strong presentation skills.
  • Ability and willingness to orient and collaborate with plant operators and outside contractors; ability to surface and handle conflictual issues that impede progress.
  • Experience in collaborating with customers, upper management, process, and research engineers.
  • Experience in Automotive Manufacturing facilities preferred.
