Description:
Essential Job Duties:
- Counsels staff and supervisors on issues including (but not limited to) performance management, policy and procedure questions, attendance, conflict management, and work scheduling.
- Identifies potential employee relations, benefit policy, or leave issues/problems and takes the necessary steps to research legal/regulatory compliance requirements, Bastyr University HR policy compliance, potential impact on employee morale/relations, and develops a recommendation on appropriate steps to respond to issues/problems for review.
- Administers day-to-day activities of university programs, such as benefits, payroll, policies, learning & development, data entry, customer service, etc.
- Maintains written logs and other records documenting events.
- Ensures that the university complies with all federal, state and local regulatory compliance, filing, and employee notification requirements for health and welfare benefit, retirement and leave programs.
- Oversees and maintains confidentiality and integrity of information.
Other Responsibilities:
- Assist supervisors with drafting action plans, warning letters, terminations and performance improvement plans.
- Prepares internal communications regarding policies, benefits, and other announcements.
- Provides training to community alongside Director of HR for benefits, performance management, and strategic plans.
- Acts as compensation subject matter expert participates in salary surveys, performs market analyses and position classifications for new or revised positions.
- Oversee the annual performance evaluation process in partnership with the Director of HR.
- Oversee the 403b retirement plan, including annual 403b nondiscrimination testing, plan administration, and serving in administrative role on the Retirement Committee.
- Assists HR team in the design/implementation of benefits policies, procedures, & programs.
- Assist HR team with specific projects as requested such as HR policy updates, employee experience survey, and new software program implementations.
- Serve on university committees as requested or needed, including the University Governance Council Professional Development Committee, University Policies Committee, Assessment Committee, and 403b Retirement Committee.
- Participates in the annual health insurance plan renewal process.
- Provides support/assistance in any general HR areas as requested, including payroll, benefits, and recruitment.
- Reports to Director of HR and supervises Benefits Specialist.

- In-depth knowledge of employment laws including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Affordable Care Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Seattle Paid Sick Leave and other applicable state and federal laws.
- In-depth knowledge of defined contribution retirement plans.
- In-depth knowledge of progressive discipline and performance management theories and practices.
- Knowledge of Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity issues.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to mediate situations between opposing parties, diffuse volatile situations, calm upset persons, and explain policies, procedures, and legal requirements in a clear, understandable manner.

- Experience:
- A minimum of 4-6 years of progressive responsibility in developing, implementing and administering human resources programs.
- Higher-education industry experience preferred.
