Description:
Under general direction, directs, designs, develops, assigns, instructs, and checks graphics work, and coordinates the production and development of a wide variety of projects for the college.
Conceptualizes, designs and produces digital and print-ready graphics projects; including but not limited to social media posts, publications, logos, advertisements, maps, videos, internet materials, drawings, displays, television animations, Google Slides and/or PowerPoint slide decks, mailers, brochures, posters, signs, bulletins, newspaper ads, and other marketing and communications materials. All work should be produced ensuring compliance with design and branding standards, adherence to the college style guide, and/or by providing consultation and advice to management on graphic projects.
- Illustrates an unlimited range of subject matter in a wide variety of media including computer graphics and traditional methods such as pen and ink, pencil, etc.
- Consults with managers and staff on graphic projects, considering factors like visibility, distribution, budget, branding and the college's overall marketing and communications plans; advises others regarding the practical applications of graphic design as a tool of visual communication.
- Develops, trains, and explains to department staff the effective use of graphic design and production costs; offers ideas, suggestions and information on techniques, content, and format.
- Designs and uses branded templates for publications and trains college staff on a recurring schedule in best practices for using templates to market their own events, classes and programs.
- Conceives, designs, edits and produces organization-wide informational materials, taking into account intended use, audience, budget and the project's and department's goals and objectives.
- Develops and ensures adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and project specifications.
- Develops and ensures compliance with organization design standards, which includes logo usage, ADA requirements, iconography, photo content, typography and design elements.
- Produces complex, computer-generated multi-page artwork or separations for black and white, and color reproduction, using graphic design software for page layout, illustration and photo manipulation.
- Accomplishes typographic compositions, conversions and manipulations of photographs and illustrations, using a variety of techniques and computer software and materials.
- Assists in the development and production of digital graphics, such as web content, web graphics, forms, campus readerboard and other digital media.
- Submits print orders and works directly with print operators on projects and is able to provide detailed written instructions if necessary for a variety of complex projects, including type specifications, paper stocks, ink, colors, folding, scoring, embossing, engraving and binding techniques.
- Contributes to plans for social media strategy and content calendar.
- Posts design work/content updates to the college website.
- Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in graphic design; or equivalent art school training plus two years experience as a graphic designer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of graphic design and printing; effective application of materials and media; computer graphic equipment and peripherals (printers, scanners, digital cameras, etc.); graphic design software (such as; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Bridge, Acrobat, and Freehand for publications, illustrations, photo manipulation, etc.).
