DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
The ideal candidate is a professional with significant and progressively responsible experience in a field related to watershed and water resources management, and/or similar fields with an educational background in environmental science, environmental engineering, watershed management, ecology, geology, or a related science field. The ideal candidate will be able to step into an exciting leadership role for the County with its partner agencies in helping implement programs, grant-funded projects, and other coordinated efforts to improve watershed health and increase climate and water supply resilience.

In addition, the most successful applicants will demonstrate professional competencies in the following areas:

Technical Knowledge | Experience

  • Ability to lead the planning and implementation of watershed management programs on behalf of the County, municipalities, partner agencies, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to prepare and review applications for Federal, State, and local grant funding to support projects and programs that benefit watershed health and increase climate and water supply resilience
  • Experience with planning and implementation of multi-benefit, multi-jurisdictional projects to improve watershed health and increase climate and water supply resilience
  • Familiarity with the environmental regulations that would apply to watershed management and water resources projects (including stream restoration projects)
  • Understanding of the legislative process and ability to track pending legislation related to watershed management and/or water resources funding
  • Ability to assist in preparing budgets and vendor/professional service contract documents
  • Ability to utilize web-based applications and databases to support data access, management, assessment, and integration

  • Coordinate watershed management efforts with multiple County departments, cities, and special districts; and lead multi-agency workgroups and meetings
  • Coordinate with Federal and State regulatory agencies on watershed management projects and programs
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Address difficult issues immediately utilizing tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality in dealing with difficult and sensitive situations
