Description:
This is the top environment, health, safety & facilities position in a global manufacturing organization. This position holds direct responsibility for compliance with international environmental regulations and with international safety regulations. Safety compliance includes mitigation of physical hazards, as well as compliance with chemical exposure requirements, ergonomic standards, and with company policies which are established to go beyond compliance.
Specific Responsibilities
- Directs global research into present and proposed pollution control or occupational health regulation to determine their impact on the company’s worldwide operations.
- Directs the development of environmental and safety audit tools for compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements. This includes local, state, and federal codes, and where they apply, rules established by the international regulatory and economic communities. Directs regular audits to assess facility compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements, and reports findings to key stakeholders.
- Coordinates environmental, health and safety activities with production supervision and engineering to promote and maintain effective communication and minimize duplication of resources.
- Directs the development of corporate safety and environmental management systems (KSMS and KEMS) to ensure regulatory compliance, eliminate workplace injuries, and reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
- Develops the most feasible, cost effective, efficient, and timely methodology for the design and construction of on-site high volume industrial waste landfills.
- Directs and monitors the construction of on-site high volume industrial waste landfills.
- Performs public relations responsibilities by representing the company at public meetings and hearings.
- Directs the engineering activities required by regulatory citations or pollution abatement orders issued by regulating agencies, and closure, construction, or modification of manufacturing, waste handling, or wastewater treatment facilities.
- Directs accident investigation and loss time and accident prevention programs on a corporate level, to minimize injuries and lost time costs to production.
- Develops and directs corporate level training and communication programs to build senior leadership’s understanding and commitment to EHS issues and associated corporate compliance standards.
- Develops and maintains a positive image for the company with the public and with government regulatory agencies. Maintains effective communication with government agencies and provides these agencies with reports and technical data as required by order or regulation.
- Develops and directs corporate level waste minimization, recycling, and beneficial reuse programs for company facilities worldwide. Assists with national/global recycling and disposal agreements.
- Manages capital and financial budgets for EHS projects and manage EHS manpower on a corporate level. Develops strategic initiatives consistent with the company’s global vision.
Skills/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental, health, and safety; engineering; science; or related field required with a preference towards a master’s degree.
- 7+ years of experience with domestic and international environmental, health, and safety programs.
- Proven ability to lead change management and transform environments.
