Senior Business Development Manager

 

Description:

As a Senior Business Development Manager at our law firm, you will play a crucial role in helping to enhance and transform our business development capabilities across the firm. Collaborating closely with the Marketing and Business Development (MBD) Team, firm leadership, practice groups, and industry teams, you will be responsible for driving strategic priorities and growth initiatives, implementing operational excellence, fostering client relationships, and identifying new business opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business development, client development, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of the legal industry.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Collaborate with practice group chairs, practice group managers, key stakeholders and members of the business development team to identify growth objectives and co-create business development initiatives and budgets to support growth objectives.
  • Provide strategic guidance and proactive recommendations for the development, implementation, and ongoing preparation, review, and updating of business development plans, materials, and programs.
  • Lead business development and pitch strategy sessions for partners and manage development of pitches, proposals, and RFP responses.
  • Supervise, direct, and mentor Business Development team to ensure all team member efforts are aligned to the firm’s strategic objectives.
  • Provide coordination, direction, and oversight for practice or industry-specific seminars and conference sponsorships. Develop and implement high-level partnering relationships with professional organizations, industry associations, and educational institutions to identify leadership positions, speaking and conference presentation opportunities and sources of referral for attorneys.
  • Provide input into the development of firm marketing materials and provide relevant content for the firm’s intranet and internet websites.
  • Collaborate with practice group chairs, practice group managers, and HR to ensure smooth and effective integration of new attorneys.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and mentor support team; ability to delegate tasks as appropriate across the organization.
  • An understanding of overall law firm marketing and client relations/development programs including competitive intelligence, cross-selling initiatives, and current supporting technologies.
  • Solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work successfully with attorneys, clients, staff, community, and vendors.
  • Professional client service manner, responsiveness, flexibility, and adaptability. Demonstrated “client first” mentality.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and persuasively (written and oral).
  • Strong ability to work on complex projects with general direction and minimal guidance.
  • Strong ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under aggressive time constraints.
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent follow-through and project management skills.

Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of marketing and/or business development experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree required preferably in Marketing, Communications, or business-related areas or equivalent on the job experience.
  • Valid authorization to work in the U.S.
