Security Officer

 

Description:

The Security Officer provides protection and safety for Bishop Museum visitors, staff, volunteers, collections, and buildings.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Patrol all museum buildings, grounds, parking lots, and perimeters. Monitor alarm and CCTV systems.

  • Locate irregularities that may damage or harm Bishop Museum properties, visitors, volunteers, or staff.

  • Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic as needed.

  • Respond to, assess, and notify authorities of suspicious, alarm, or emergency situations.

  • Monitor catering staff and guests during special events.

  • Secure buildings and grounds after all staff have left.

  • Assume responsibility for building, contents, and staff during non-public hours.

  • Complete written reports and logs as required.

  • In the Lieutenant’s absence, ensure proper procedures are followed, checking the event calendar and, in the case of an event, calling the department responsible with any questions.

  • Participate in developing alternative patrol routines for effective use of staff.

  • Participate in developing assignment schedules that make effective use of present staffing.

  • Suggest changes to security policies and procedures to improve security and safety.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of security experience, preferably in a museum or educational environment.

  • A valid Hawaii Guard Card is required.

  • A valid Hawaii Driver's License is required.
