The First Year and Pre-Admission to the Major Recruitment and Retention Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordinating an all-inclusive program that provides support for pre-admission to the major students in architectural studies, construction management, interior design, and landscape architecture. In collaboration with program specific academic advisors and program heads, this position will instruct, guide, and counsel students based on their career choice, course choice, and academic major to develop an application process plan for the professional programs.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Program development to enhance student benefit and satisfaction from involvement with the SDC, as well as commencement of a successful realization for a professional career path.
  • Participating in most, if not all, recruitment, retention, and orientation events for new and prospective students during the academic year and summer session (e.g., Fall Preview, Admitted Students, New Coug Orientation).
  • Providing presentations, workshops, prospective student tours, and coordination for recruitment activities.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with faculty and staff at the SDC, in the College, and with university offices for recruitment and retention.
  • Assisting with data collection and development of evidence-based practices in program recruitment and retention.
  • Contributing to creation and distribution of marketing resources, educational resources, and promotional materials for student recruitment and retention programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years' experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks effectively.
  • Work evenings and weekends as necessary.
