Science Communication And Education Specialist

 

Description:

The Science Communication and Education Specialist works with team members within the Natural Science, Cultural Resources, Library & Archives, Public Programs, and Institutional Advancement departments on educational program priorities serving DOE teachers and students.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Design and develop educational science curricula for middle and high school age groups, aligned with state and national standards, that integrate hands-on activities, inquiry-based learning, and interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Educational Programming: Plan and facilitate engaging educational programs, including guided tours, workshops, demonstrations, and special events, both onsite and offsite, to inspire curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of science and culture.
  • Event Support: Provide logistical support of DOE pilots and related programming, including scheduling, itineraries, catering arrangements, etc. Collect, track and input program and event data.
  • Collaboration and Outreach: Act as a liaison between different departments at the Museum to facilitate effective communication and resource allocation. Collaborate with Museum staff, educators, scientists, and community partners to develop interdisciplinary initiatives, foster meaningful partnerships, and promote the Museum’s mission and educational objectives within the local community and beyond.
  • Web Content Development: Create engaging and informative digital content, including website updates, blog posts, videos, and interactive resources, to enhance the museum's online presence and extend educational outreach to a broader audience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, science, museum studies, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in science education, curriculum development, exhibit design, or a related field, preferably in a museum or informal learning environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, including designing and implementing inquiry-based learning experiences and integrating technology and multimedia resources.
