The Nonfinancial Agreements (NFA) Core Lead position within the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) is responsible for the independent negotiation and management of various research-related agreements involving a high level of independent judgment and personal interaction, including telephone and electronic-mail conversations.� The NFA Core Lead oversees the ORI's Law Externship with the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law which includes oversight of both practicum and academic aspects of student training on nonfinancial agreements.� The position requires an understanding of the legal and regulatory environment (Institutional and Governmental) surrounding both non-clinical and clinical research, as well as the impact on the departments and investigators involved with research at the University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Negotiating and approving agreements associated with research activities.
  • Training Law Students to review and negotiate nonfinancial agreements efficiently and effectively.
  • Managing Law Student dockets and correspond with the Law School on evaluations and academic requirements.
  • Triaging incoming agreements, coordinating with other research offices as needed to facilitate negotiations and the best point-person.
  • Tracking and management of research related metrics
  • Assisting researchers and their departments with the interpretation of obligations of research-related agreements and applicable laws and regulations
  • Helping maintain financial integrity and compliance with applicable laws and regulations of the sponsored activities.
  • Reviewing and approving budgets, budget adjustments, and other related activities associated with sponsored research agreements
  • Collaborating with hospital and medical practice partners in order to facilitate inter-organizational agreements.
