Description:
The R&D engineer will be working with electrospinning technique to process synthetic nanofibers for various tissue engineering applications. The position requires knowledge in material science including lab processes and characterization of biomaterials. The work will be conducted at the company laboratory located at ULP facility located at the UCI campus. The R&D engineer will specifically conduct the following lab activities:
• Scaffold development and optimization via electrospinning technique.
• Physical, chemical, and mechanical characterization of scaffold materials.
• Working with the following techniques:
- Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
- Porosity analysis
- Image analysis
- Tensile testing
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Review of literature to keep up to date with the new research strategies and contribute to the development of project plans.
• Assist laboratory members on a variety of projects, ranging from building prototypes to characterizing competitor products.
• Document experimental work, including the maintenance of an updated and complete laboratory notebook, preparation of a written completion report, and presentation of results to members of the scientific team.
• Work with design engineers to create components, assemblies or tools required for scaffold development.
• Help the research team determining relationship between scaffold fabrication techniques process parameters and critical outputs, then measure outputs against product specifications.
• Help the research team assessing mechanical failure modes for the scaffolds and conduct technical risk analysis.
• Facilitate problem solving to overcome complex technical problems and provide innovative solutions.
• Perform other special projects and functions as assigned by the supervisor.
