Description:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Consults with Native American Tribes and other Indigenous communities regarding repatriation and information requests
- Conducts collections-based research, including examination of archives, investigation into provenience and provenance, and consultation with community experts
- Maintains accurate records of all activities, including collections research, correspondence, consultations, notices, inventories, summaries, and determinations regarding collections and repatriation
- Drafts and submits NAGPRA documents, including summaries, inventories, and Notices
- Presents requests and updates to the Museum’s Repatriation Subcommittee
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Anthropology or a related field; museum or related research experience
- Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultural concerns and the ability to work in collaboration with Indigenous peoples successfully on issues related to repatriation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain respectful working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and deadlines
- Excellent research and writing skills, with the ability to synthesize and clearly present complex information
