Description:
In partnership with the Center for Justice Innovation’s Project Reset, we seek a Teaching Artists to facilitate arts-based programming for two groups of Project Reset participants ages 18-30 and 30+. Project Reset is an early diversion program that provides people who have been arrested an opportunity to complete arts-based programming rather than going to court to face formal prosecution. This innovative collaboration brings Project Reset to all of Brooklyn, leveraging the power of the arts to provide a meaningful alternative to conventional prosecution of low-level crimes.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience working as a teaching artist and a demonstrated history of work that utilizes the arts to facilitate conversation and self-reflection on charged subjects such as race, justice, accountability, personal agency, and control of one’s narrative
- Familiarity with court diversion programs
- Knowledge of trauma-informed pedagogy
- Demonstrated ability to successfully engage with a variety of ages and from diverse backgrounds
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to write lesson plans
- Capacity to maintain strong relationships with multiple agencies and organizations, both onsite and in the larger Brooklyn community
- Ability to regularly assess performance and integrate feedback as needed
- Creative problem-solving abilities and passion for work at the intersection of art and social justice, especially in the context of criminal justice reform
- Applications are encouraged from individuals with any proximity to the justice system, particularly from those with direct experience
Responsibilities:
- Lead a highly engaging gallery and studio-based program for up to fifteen Project Reset participants three times a week on Thursdays from 10 am to 1 pm
- Critically reflect and strengthen session design by actively participating in assessment and planning sessions with Museum and Center for Justice Innovation staff
- Participate in training sessions and professional development workshops with Museum staff, and site visits to Brooklyn Justice Initiatives and other Center for Justice Innovation projects
- Create program curriculum in collaboration with Museum and Center for Justice Innovation staff
- Conceptualizing the final exhibition, which will showcase the work created by participants over the project’s first year
