Description:
DEFINITION : Under general supervision, serves as project manager for Planning, Design and Construction for new construction and renovation capital improvement projects, Special Project Requests and 7330 Requests (third-party funded capital projects). Oversees and coordinates the work of consultants, designers, and contractors. Performs other duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
- Facilitates a team to evaluate and analyze existing facilities. Reviews the work of in-house and consultant architects and engineers and others. Reviews and comments on project designs, plans, drawings, and related documents. Provides advice and guidance regarding building codes, design issues, and related matters.
- Assists in creating and updating design standards. Oversees preparation and documentation for facility’s feasibility studies, planning studies and site studies. Assists in creating and updating educational specifications. Participates in community engagement and committee meetings with community and school stakeholders. Navigates and prepares documents for state review and approval process. Oversees preparation of historic property’s Determination of Eligibility.
- Prepares designs which are developed into construction documents for various types of special projects and capital building projects.
- Participates in the contract bid process. Responds to questions and concerns at pre-bid meetings.
- Prepares and reviews contract documents. Conducts meetings with consultants, contractors, suppliers, citizens, school-based employees, and others regarding capital projects. Responds to their questions and comments.
- Establishes, monitors, and coordinates project schedules and deadlines. Investigates, studies, and resolves issues that occur during the project's planning, design, and construction. Travels to project sites. Performs fieldwork in investigating special project requests and 7330 requests and reports back findings to senior supervisor.
- Processes project change orders. Coordinates with consultants, contractors, and field personnel to implement changes and to resolve project issues. Coordinates and reviews project expenditures. Reviews requisitions and bills. Reviews account funding.
- Supervises the inspection of project construction. Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of inspectors. Reviews inspectors’ reports of project progress.
- Maintains records and prepares reports. Prepares correspondence.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction, or business management.
Three years of architectural design, engineering, or construction project management experience.
