Description:
The ID&C/IT Systems Project Engineer leads the development of technical scope, requirements, estimates, and schedules for capital investment, test, and maintenance projects for the Capital Project Management organization. The project engineer in this role will provide project engineering and technical leadership for projects associated with the networks and information technology systems required for shared storage, archival and retrieval of large amounts of test data. This role coordinates Engineering activities (e.g., technical planning, design, installation, and checkout) with Design Engineers, System Engineers, Test Operations Engineers, Project Managers, other non-Engineering functions, and support for the projects within the Capital Project Management’s portfolio.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for leading the delivery of engineering deliverables on a project or group of projects for NAS. Coordinates with the Capital Project Managers, Group Managers and Functional Managers to secure the resources needed to complete design activities.
- Responsible for technical leadership associated with the architecture of networks and IT systems required for the storage, archival and retrieval of large amounts of data.
- Manages employee performance and results; utilizes company systems and tools to document results in a timely and consistent manner.
- Communicates information that assists with effective priority determination by ID&C and IT&S Branch Management.
- Coordinate with Project Controls and lead engineering teams in creating, managing, maintaining and updating schedules.
- Works with Project Controls to develop work breakdown structures; Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules; and resource, cost and budget plans.
- Supports Project Control / Capital Project Manager in performing critical path analysis and development of timelines for completion of tasks, measuring the deliverable work packages of the project against the project plan.
- Working with Project Controls may support establishment and maintenance of individual project schedules and unify them into integrated schedules to provide NAS management visibility into program resource allocations for decision making.
- Communicates schedule conflicts, resource constraints, and time constraints to the project team, section supervisors, and group managers.
- Provides technical leadership in the preparation of progress reports, standardized reporting procedures and the monitoring of overall project performance.
- Tracks project charging and ensures appropriate charge number assignment.
- Organizes and communicates project information (e.g., scope of work, requirements documentation, drawings, and estimates) to project team members.
- Serves as a technical lead and liaison between the project team, contractor, and government engineering staff.
- Support process improvement efforts and development and documentation of new processes.
- It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant scientific discipline plus a minimum of ten (10) to twelve (12) years of relevant experience.
- Current United States citizenship required.
