Description:
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead design authority for specific products (optical amplifiers, optical channel monitors, OTDRs, and Linecards)and strategic customers, with responsibility for the full development cycle - alignment of specifications, customer technical communication, overall product design, integration, qualification, customer validation and approval, transfer to volume manufacturing, and oversight of sustaining engineering (cost reduction, component obsolescence, etc) activities.
- Define product architecture to align with customer requirements.
- Align with product management on key metrics – performance, cost, schedule - for product to achieve market success
- Define work packages and deliverables for optical, hardware, firmware, software designers and manufacturing test engineers to support product design and schedules.
- DFx (x=performance, cost, quality, manufacturability) ownership for the product - compliance to specification, part/supplier selection for cost & risk mitigation, manufacturing margins for high yields and high volume scalability
- Shephard the product through Coherent’s stage gate process, taking proactive actions as necessary to maintain committed development schedule. Collaborate closely with Program Manager to identify and mitigate technical risks early in the product design cycle.
- Engage closely with NPI team in Asia to ensure seamless transition of the product from alpha/beta phase to high volume manufacturing.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity within the extended product development team.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
- At least 15 years of experience in product development, with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex optical subsystem products (Optical Amplifiers, Linecards, OCMs, OTDRs) at scale to Tier 1 customers
- 5+ years of leading multi-function product development teams as design authority, principle engineer or chief engineer, with ultimate responsibility for meeting customer commitments on product performance and spec compliance.
- Deep knowledge of optical networks and systems, applications, technologies, products, and solutions.
- Strong technical background with well-rounded knowledge of optics, electronics, control systems, and embedded firmware.
- Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with customers on technical and programmatic issues.
- Strong organizational, collaborative, and planning skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile, and dynamic environment, perform under stress, and be a team player.
