Description:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop product designs which deliver customer satisfaction as measured by design success rate and product margins while utilizing existing manufacturing process capabilities.
- Aggressively redesign products and processes to improve the Company’s competitiveness.
- Manage and successfully complete special projects and meet design activity deadlines at a 100% compliance rate.
- Integrate existing products into new designs where possible. Communicate design concepts and product specifications to LA Darling’s marketing, sales, and customers as required.
- Facilitate product introduction by providing manufacturing support on first production run and continue to provide design engineering support to the plant throughout the lifecycle of the production.
- Operate the department within the 80/20 business model.
- Improve the costs of quality through team member development utilizing 80/20 and 6s: improve the process, reduce waste, and eliminate non-value-added activities.
- Maintain safety within the department and the plant.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Effective verbal and written communication both internally and externally.
- Ability to apply engineering methods to solve design problems.
- Knowledge of metal stamping, forming, and cutting processes.
- Effective leadership and interpersonal skills used to accomplish objectives.
- Understand and utilize the required protective equipment while working in the plant.
- Effective analysis, development, and presentation of complex information to small groups.
- Able to conceptualize and develop complex designs based on customer input.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering with 1-2 years of related experience.
- In lieu of an engineering degree 5-10 years of progressive experience in related area is required.
- CAD experience required.
- SolidWorks Preferred.
- Lean experience preferred.
