Postdoctoral Researcher

Description:

We use genetically modified mice, patient cells, and cell lines to model leukemia and apply a broad armamentarium of techniques to study signal transduction, genetics, and metabolism. Although we do deep mechanistic work, we never lose sight of the clinical applications that our work may have. We are funded by 3 R01s, 1 R21, and start-up funds. Ongoing projects include:

  • SIRT5 as a metabolic regulator of acute myeloid leukemia and acute lymphoblastic leukemia
  • Development of a SIRT5 inhibitor
  • Resistance to BCR::ABL1 compound mutations in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)
  • Development of a BCR::ABL1 PROTAC
  • Role of the MS4A3 tetraspanin in normal and leukemic hematopoiesis
  • Mapping the ecosystem of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML)

We emphasize scientific rigor, attention to detail, hard work, transparency, fairness and integrity. Our research is based on team science, giving credit to all who contribute to the work. We provide a strong training environment for postdoctoral fellows that teaches not only technical skills, but also scientific method, writing, oral presentation skills and grantsmanship. Most Deininger trainees have remained in science and are now leading their own independent research programs in academia or industry. We encourage our team members to think out of the box, ask critical questions, and participate actively in discussions. Creativity and innovation thrive in environment where people like to work, feel safe and respected, and can realize their full potential. If you I hear yourself say: "OMG, Milwaukee" and "what the heck is this Blood Research Institute", then you should write to me.
