Personnel Technician

 

Description:

Under direction, performs a variety of technical, administrative and advanced clerical duties in the area of recruitment and selection, classification and salary administration, benefits programs, equal employment opportunity, employee/labor relations, employee development, training, and/or other human resources programs.

Examples of Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of

  • Basic human resources principles and procedures
  • Personnel and payroll record and documentation
  • Arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, percentages, fractions)
  • Communication skills and techniques required for transmitting information and making formal presentations


Ability to

  • Read, understand, and explain human resources policies, procedures, and rules
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in front of groups and on a one-on-one basis
  • Plan and organize work efficiently and effectively
  • Learn effective interviewing techniques
  • Exercise good judgement
  • Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with staff, other agencies, and the general public
  • Research and write reports and correspondence in a grammatically acceptable and logical form
  • Analyze and evaluate statements and information;
  • Draw logical conclusions and make recommendations
  • Learn higher technical skills involved in an assigned phase of human resources management
