Description:
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gives minor first aid to ill and injured.
- Contact the school nurses or designated person in case of major illness or serious injury.
- Contacts the parents of the ill or injured student in accordance with established health office policy and, if necessary, prepares the student to be transported.
- Confers with school nurses regarding student absences for health reasons.
- Records and communicates with teachers and other personnel regarding disposition of students sent to the health office.
- Maintains and files health office records.
- Receives and relays telephone messages pertaining to individual student health problems.
- Assists the secretaries with other office work as time is available.
- Assists the school nurses in scheduling and performing routine screening procedures, informing teachers of screening results and following up on referrals.
- Assists in communicable disease prevention by reviewing and communicating immunization needs of students.
- Is knowledgeable of and able to identify common health concerns of adolescent students, i.e. obesity, acne, depression, etc.
- Is knowledgeable of appropriate referral patterns.
- Records health office visits, students' symptoms and the disposition in electronic and written records.
- Communicates with the school nurses and teacher(s) as necessary.
- Supervises students and records medications that need to be taken during school hours.
