Description:
The Howard H. Baker, Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking applications for a Non-Tenure Track Faculty position in Public Policy and Public Affairs, starting in August 2025. This is a three-year renewable appointment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses focused on national, state, and local policy issues and processes, both in-person and online.
- Engage in public service and outreach activities.
- Contribute to the Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs, Master of Public Policy (MPP), and Master of Public Administration (MPA) programs.
- Collaborate with Baker School leadership and faculty to shape innovative curriculum and student programming.
- Serve as a student advisor and mentor.
- Optionally, contribute to the Baker School’s research centers (Center for Energy, Transportation, and Environmental Policy, Center for National Security and Foreign Affairs, and the Institute of American Civics).
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, or a relevant field at the time of application.
- Proven teaching effectiveness, including developing and delivering new courses.
- Evidence of teaching evaluations, teaching philosophy, and a strong commitment to service and student success.
- Ability to teach topics related to American Public Policy and (optional) visualizing and communicating data.
- Teaching load: 4 courses per semester (Fall) and 3 courses per semester (Spring), combining undergraduate and graduate levels.
Rank-Specific Requirements:
- Teaching Assistant Professor: Must demonstrate teaching effectiveness and commitment to university and community service.
- Teaching Associate Professor: Minimum 5 years of exceptional teaching experience plus service contributions.
- Teaching Professor: Minimum 10 years of exceptional teaching experience plus service contributions.
