Role Overview:

  • This position serves as a subject matter expert in complex telecommunications networks, particularly with client processes.
  • The candidate must have advanced skills in remote network surveillance and troubleshooting network outages.
  • Responsibilities include fault isolation, network testing, and troubleshooting interface problems with transport vendors.
  • The role may involve working across multiple elements of the network, such as the backbone network, Cisco routers, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Checkpoint firewalls, and A10 load balancers.
  • This position also includes mentoring and training junior technicians, guiding them through fault identification, isolation, and resolution, as well as system upgrades and verifying system operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform remote surveillance and tier 1 maintenance on network nodes within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Provide technical support to other technicians and engineers.
  • Perform fault isolation tests for transport issues and monitor network alarms.
  • Create and respond to work orders and trouble tickets, taking action on restoration or dispatching the appropriate technician.
  • Escalate trouble tickets with third-party vendors (transport, power, telco companies) and second-tier internal teams as necessary.
  • Support during large-scale outages and disaster recovery efforts.
  • Participate in training to stay updated on new systems, products, and network technologies.
  • Collaborate with senior-level technicians to gain deeper knowledge of complex troubleshooting and repair functions.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to management.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • 9+ years of experience in a technical role.
  • Intermediate knowledge of TCP/IP concepts, common router user interfaces, and command structure.
  • Understanding of data/traffic flow between endpoints.
  • Familiarity with network topology for enterprise or service provider networks.
  • Basic understanding of higher-level traffic flows like HTTP and VoIP.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in a 24x7x365 environment, including participation in shift rotation.
