Description:

Duties

  • You will assist the registrar in conducting inventories of the artifact collection in storage as well as implementing inventory controls.
  • You will work with the registrar to process artifact donations and incoming and outgoing loans.
  • You will respond to general inquiries on historical properties in storage and identify artifacts to be used to support the museum's exhibitions and education/ outreach programs.
  • You will coordinate and liaison within the Naval History and Heritage Command to implement the position responsibilities with regard to the identification, care, and accountability of artifacts.
  • You will assist the registrar with establishing and updating the museum's formal policies and procedures documents.

Qualifications

GS-07:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Qualifying experience includes the following:1) Applying museum collection management practices that include inventory, cataloging, preserving, and storage of artifacts;2) Utilizing a collection data management system to retrieve artifact information, create digital images, and maintain archival records; and3) Providing answers to inquiries on items in museum collection and proper care of historical artifacts.

GS-06:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Qualifying experience includes the following: 1) Assisting in conducting inventories of artifact collection or storage 2) Participating in the identification, care, and accountability of artifacts; and 3) Responding to general inquiries on historical properties related to the storage and identification of artifacts.
