Description:
The Museum Facilities Technician is responsible for supporting building operations, coordination of technical and janitorial contractors, and ensuring that all exhibit components are clean, safe, presentable, and functional. This is a physically active role that works closely with all administrative departments to addressmaintenance and viability of the facilities and integrity of the Museum space.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Develop and maintain a digitally scheduled regimen of recurring tasks and preventative maintenance to effectively forecast the needs of the facility.
· Complete daily safety and cleanliness tasks. Make needed repairs and perform cleaning and maintenance of exhibits, building, and grounds before the museum opens to the public. This includes waste management, landscaping, and debris removal.
· General upkeep of all facility surfaces and exhibit components, ordering and replacement of worn parts, and recommend appropriate equipment purchases and maintenance as necessary.
· Maintain a current and continuous inventory of departmental maintenance equipment and staff keys/access to building.
· Work within parameters of departmental and project-based budgets.
· Keep staff informed of maintenance scheduling changes and exhibit closures or repairs that impact the public.
· Schedule and manage all facility related vendors.Coordinate exhibit installation and de-installation with vendors. [JB1]
· Troubleshoot HVAC, plumbing, lighting, electrical, mechanical, alarm, and elevator systems. Perform basic maintenance and repairs.
· Collaborate to identify and eliminate potential areas for physical or cultural access barriers and ensure that the facility is poised to adapt to its community.
· Meet with Education Team regularly to evaluate exhibits and plans, and initiates exhibit improvement and upgrades.
· Responsible for the physical and structural security of the facility including managing security systems, building access permissions, and emergency supply inventories.
· Regularly audit and update current systems to ensure compliance with OSHA, L&I, and MSDS guidelines.
· Contribute to the organization’s emergency action plan, including evacuation protocols.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience/Qualifications
REQUIRED:
· Proficiency with basic hand and power tools.
· Two years’ experience in a facilities role or Technical Certification.
· Ability to diagnose, problem solve, service, and repair various equipment.
· Strong organizational skills: ability to manage internal and external service schedules, balance multiple projects, and independently prioritize competing demands
· Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, work outdoors, move from ground to above shoulder, ascend/descend stairs and ladders, position self to bend, stoop, sit, push, and pull.
· Willingness to gain working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and SharePoint.
· Demonstrated Knowledge of OSHA practices.
· Demonstrated ability to communicate and relate effectively to a wide variety of individuals.
PREFFRED
· One year of experience in a facilities management role.
· 2-3 years’ combined experience in woodworking, carpentry, electro-mechanical systems, and metalwork.
