Museum Educator

 

Description:

The Museum Educator delivers and assists in the development of educational programming for the Dayton Society of Natural History (DSNH) including the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery and SunWatch Indian Village/Archeological Park. This position reports to two Education Managers, managing our Paid and Public programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Delivers a variety of educational programming, including but not limited to: onsite and outreach school programming, public programs, summer camps, scout programs, overnight programs, early childhood programs.
  • Maintains laboratory safety after the completion of required training to work with various chemicals and laboratory equipment.
  • Assists in curriculum development, lesson planning, and implementation of various programs.
  • Assists with the preparation of developmentally appropriate materials, presentations, and activities which reflect the needs and interests of children and adults participating in DSNH programming.
  • Participates in professional development, including evaluations of skills and performance reviews, to ensure effectiveness.
  • Trains in the proper use and handling of ambassador animals as required by programming needs. Ambassador collection includes invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and small mammals.
  • Shares the responsibility of traveling for programming with the team of Museum Educators. This involves occasional overnight and multi-day travel.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Museum Studies, or STEM field preferred.
