Duties
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide overall professional and technical direction for the museum collection programs for Charles Pinckney National Historic Site, Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park, Reconstruction Era National Historical Park, and Congaree National Park, plans for and develops recommendations for programming priorities of all museum management functions, and ensures that NPS and professionally recognized procedures are applied in all operations.
- Maintain all record keeping and documentation for museum collections.
- Plans and implements proper curatorial procedures for on-site and outside exhibits.
- Conduct research necessary to identify and/or authenticate museum objects, to obtain necessary catalog data, to develop new techniques for collection preservation, and to determine legal status (copyright).
- Maintain proper preservation, security and fire protection, and collection storage conditions; monitors, controls and maintains the environment for collections; and manages an integrated pest management program.
- Make presentations in parks, public gatherings, and professional meetings.
- Consult with the resources division and support office cultural and natural resources personnel to ensure that compliance and long-term preservation concerns related to the historic structures, archeological sites, and natural components within the unit are properly considered as they relate to museum management.
