Multimedia Learning Designer

 

Description:

Responsible for partnering with faculty and instructional designers to create innovative, interactive, and engaging digital resources for online courses offered through the University of Southern Indiana. Using pedagogical strategies, learning theories/instructional design models, and best practices in online instruction, integrate instructional technologies to promote effective teaching and to improve student learning experiences and outcomes with exemplary course design. This position will also evaluate and review the effectiveness of multimedia assets in online courses, provide consultation and assistance with the technical and programmatic development of assigned projects, and design, develop and facilitate effective professional development workshops.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to identify digital assets to create and identify opportunities to incorporate multimedia and video components into online courses.
  • Assist faculty with selection and incorporation of multimedia and instructional technology to meet the requirements for the Quality Matters Higher Education Standards for Course Design rubric.
  • Create digital assets for online courses and other instructional products.
  • Develop graphics and media in Blackboard learning modules and lessons that consist of user-friendly interfaces that meets instructional system design methodology.
  • Lead the development and execution of data visualizations through infographics, charts, graphs, videos, and other creative means to support course content.
  • Integrate video, audio, animation, and graphic elements into courses using Courseware authoring tools or other techniques such as Adobe Creative Suite or custom HTML coding.
  • Design and develop engaging, informative, and visually compelling online learning objects and courses, including text, graphics, interactions, and software simulations.
  • Conceptualize, create, and prepare media of different styles that support all disciplines and student segments at USI.
  • Design, develop, and facilitate workshops and professional development sessions to faculty and professional staff on the use of multimedia topics.
  • Apply knowledge of adult learning principles and theories to the development of course activities and interactions.
  • Develop and test innovative prototypes for online learning tools and methodologies for all student segments including adult learners.
  • Ensure multimedia assets meet ADA accessibility standards.
  • Research emerging academic technology to incorporate into USI online courses.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Instructional Design, Graphic Design, or closely related field.
  • Two years of experience with multimedia authoring tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite required.
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas) or other online course development platforms.
  • Working knowledge of digital accessibility standards and experience applying those standards.
  • Knowledge of the needs and expectations of different populations of students
  • Exceptional interpersonal, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and independently to develop innovative learning approaches.
