Description:
The Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) health educator provides consultation and guidance to MSM in the community through prevention outreach efforts and health fairs. The MSM health educator plans, implements, and provides HIV/STD health education, HIV testing, STD screening and risk reduction information. The MSM health educator will provide information regarding transmission, prevention, and behavior change techniques. The MSM health educator must be motivated and willing to conduct HIV/STD prevention education virtually or at outreach locations. Additionally, the health educator assists in communicating and promoting the objectives and services of the Ending the HIV Epidemic to community organizations and professional groups.
Associated Job Duties
Assists with the development of health education and risk reduction materials for MSM community and groups
Provides HIV/STD and Hepatitis counseling, testing, and referral services
Presents HIV/STD health education/prevention programs to MSM community
Provides and documents referrals for HIV testing & STD screenings
Achieves and maintains time and activity sheets and referral logs
Promotes prevention activities within the MSM communities
Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director and Program Manager
Provide referrals to assist persons with linkage to care for those persons that have an HIV reactive test result. (With follow-up)
Provide referrals to those persons who are high risk HIV negative to the PrEP navigator. (With follow-up)
Document all participant interventions in accordance with established MCPHD policies/procedures and demonstrate compliance with all program policies.
Collaborate with youth/young adult and community agencies to strategically develop and implement plans to reduce barriers to wellness and increasing access to care.
Establish and maintain relationships with MSM community organizations, to coordinate access to counseling, testing and referral services.
Maintain documentation and records, including participant demographics, location information, and daily activities.
Participate in staff meetings and on-going training sessions.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, Social Services, or other Public Health related field and minimum of one year experience in providing direct HIV/AIDS prevention services.
Knowledge of HIV/STD risk behaviors, human sexuality, and behavior change principles and strategies.
Great attitude and people skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to coordinate multiple projects and tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure work environment.
Ability to master a wide-range of information, adapts, take initiative, and work in a team-centered environment.
Valid driver's license - Dependable transportation
